ABC's of being a Domestic Goddess (aka Mom)

Monday, October 6, 2008, 08:14 AM EST [General]

Copied from Tawnya's blog. :) It was called ABC's of Homemaking.. but I really don't like being called a homemaker. I don't DO construction!!

Aprons - Y/N? If yes, what does your favorite look like?
    No.

    Baking- Favorite thing to bake?
Zucchini or banana bread, and cookies.

    Clothes line - Y/N ?
Yes, I love my clothes being line dried.

Donuts - Have you ever made them?
"Fake" doughnuts. Take a can of Pillsbury biscuits, tear a hole in the center and shape like a doughnut, fry in oil. Then I either dip in powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, white sugar, or chocolate. YUM!!

Everyday - One homemaking thing you do everyday.
    Cook.

Freezer - Do you use a deep freeze?
Yes, but mine is an upright. I'm short, and space is limited.

    Garbage Disposer Y/N?
    No.

Handbook - What's your favorite Domestic Goddess resource?
    Google.

Ironing - Love it or Hate it?
Uhh.. my iron is about 20 years old, and the RARE occasion I turn it on, it still has that smell of a new appliance. That kind of odd, almost burning smell.. LOL

Junk Drawer - Y/N? If yes, where is it?
    Umm a few of 'em.

Kitchen - color & decorating scheme.
Color is a pale yellow, decor is country. Gonna change the decor though.

Love - what is your favorite part of being a Domestic Goddess?
    Love being with my kids.

    Mop - Y/N?
I don't own a mop, I scrub floors with a bucket and rag. I also Swiffer them when they aren't too dirty.

    Nylons, machine or hand wash?
Neither.. they have no purpose being in my house. LOL

Oven - Do you use the window or open the oven to check?
    Both.

Pizza - what do you put on yours?
As much as possible. DD doesn't eat pork, so on 1 pizza we load with veggies: onions, peppers, mushrooms, olives, and lots of cheese. On another we add the same with pepperonis, sometimes bacon. Now and then we'll do a BBQ chicken pizza. YUM!

Quiet - what do you do during the day when you get a quiet moment?
What I am doing now, blogging. :)

    Recipe Card Box - Y/N?
No, I have a recipe "pile".. things I've torn from magazines, etc. I need to clean that pile up.. seriously!

Style of house - what style is your house?
Well the outside of my house really has no style. She's just a tall straight hunk of wood. LOL Inside, the style reeks of chaos!! ;)

    Tablecloths and napkins?
I have napkins and use them everyday. I have tablecloths and rarely use them. Just something else I have to wash.

Under the kitchen sink - organized or toxic wasteland?
Both, it is a semi organized wasteland. But not toxic. I've gotten rid of most of the CCC's  (Crappy Chemical Cleaner's).

Vacuum - how many times per week?
Once, but really should vacumn twice.

Wash - how many loads of laundry do you do per week?
Usually about 10-12.. depending on if I do bedding that week.

X's - Do you keep a daily list of things to do that you cross off?
Now and then I do.. usually it is if I have a lot to do that day.

    Yard - Who does what?
Jake or I mow, dh weed-eats. Both kids will help with leaf raking soon.

ZZZ's - Put the kids to bed.
I'm in bed WAY before my kids. I feel so old!!

    Review and next weeks plan

Sunday, October 5, 2008, 08:32 PM EST [General]

Last week went well again. We finished up MUS Zeta finally! YAY!! LOL So math will be less stressful now. :) We did some more Word Roots, the kids are about halfway through that.

Amanda had her first photography class. The teacher kind of lost the kids a bit because he was talking a lot of technical stuff. But now that that is "out of the way" they are moving onto more fun things.. taking pictures! hehe Their first assignment is to make a list of their favorite things and to take some pictures of those and get them printed. I didn't know it, but Flickr.com has the option to send photos to Target, have them printed and then you pick them up. 20 cents a print. Very cool! So we have to do that for Tuesday to pick her photos up.

Friday was co-op day. There were a few families out due to sickness, so it was a little less chaotic than normal. Not too much thought. LOL For Wizardology, I just had 3 boys. So they finished painting their wands, we did some reading and the first lesson in their handbooks.

Kitchen Chemistry is always crazy. LOL I have the most kids in the class, typically at least 16! We made Gooblek this time around. The kids all had fun. You just mix 3/4 cup corn starch with 1/2 cup water. It should be thick and runny at the same time, but not so runny it just like water. If you grab a handful and quickly roll it around, it should form a ball. As soon as you stop moving it around, it should turn liquid again and run through your fingers.  So much fun. :)

Here is what's up for this week coming:

Mon Oct 6th: 4 pgs Word Roots; 3 pgs Key To Decimals; Reading (Runemarks, Dr Arts); Start BF Medieval study.

Tues Oct 7th: 4 pgs Word Roots; 3 pgs Key To Decimals; Reading (Runemarks, Dr Arts); BF Medieval study.

Wed Oct 8th: 4 pgs Word Roots; 3 pgs Key To Decimals; Reading (Runemarks, Dr Arts); BF Medieval study.

Thurs Oct 9th: 4 pgs Word Roots; Reading (Runemarks, Dr Arts). -- Friend coming over I *think*.
