Our local Middle School (yes, public, but at least it was cool) did a Renaissance Faire a couple of weeks ago.  We were asked to come as vendors for Noah's Ark (which I was surprised did quite well at).  We had so much fun, and my older son was totally fascinated by the blacksmith there.  He so wants to do that someday.

Anyway, here is a picture of Mojo at the Renaissance.  We dressed him with a crown and staff, and he even had his own shield, even though it isn't pictured with him here.

This lesson was about how the Vikings lived.  They lived in long houses that usually consisted of one room.  If you were rich, your house may have several rooms.   They worshipped many gods; one named Odin, the keeper of the dead, and another named Thor, leader of the gods.  They had a rich family life.  The male children worked out with their fathers, and the female children worked with mothers inside.  They did have to work together.

The assignment was to take a rock, hammer, and chisel and write in Viking runes.  Not everyone knew how to write, only poets.  The poets memorized their exciting stories to tell around the campfire.
