    Where as the time gone?

Thursday, March 5, 2009, 09:59 PM EST [General]

I think about this blog quite often, yet have no time to update here let alone my other blogs. I can't believe it's been almost a year since I last visited this site! I've been without internet for the last month and a half, so I figured since I'm playing catch up everywhere else, I should pop in here as well!

In the last year we've done quite a bit of travelling, changed from a motorized RV to a 5th Wheel Trailer, lost family members and gained new ones, changed jobs, passed several grade levels (especially in math) and picked up some new handicrafts and hobbies! We've spent gobs of time at Disney, (sigh), ruined several swimsuits (or outgrown them!), rode our bikes how many hundreds of miles?, and tried dozens of new recipes in our teeny, tiny RV kitchen! The kids have grown several inches, new wardrobes all around, and I wore a hole in the heel of my training shoes! We've gained new friends, and had old friends move away.

Life has continued on, whether I post it here or post it there.

As long as I post it somewhere, right? :)

    A Full Week of SOS

Sunday, May 18, 2008, 10:21 AM EST [School]

We've gone through an entire week using SOS Science. DD still loves it and usually works ahead. She's looking forward to fall when all of her subjects will be computerized. I, on the other hand, am still debating this. 1) we only have my laptop available at the moment, and it's pretty frail. :(  2) expensive curriculum, even used on ebay it can get expensive. Plus battling it out with other moms looking for a deal just makes my stress levels skyrocket. 3) I'm really not sure there's enough content here. And that worries me as she gets to the higher grade levels.

DS is getting better at not complaining about using SOS, but he still won't read it on his own. He just hates to read. Anyone know of an audio version? hehehe....

The rest of our subjects are sailing right along. They'll be finishing math in the next few weeks. Vocab should be wrapping up next week. English will take us the rest of the summer to get caught up to grade level, (if that's even possible). History, we're making dents. Small ones perhaps, but we're getting there. I was really hoping to be ready to move into the Medieval Era by fall. We'll see what happens.

Monday we went on a field trip to the Orlando Museum of Art. Being from MI, we're used to going to the Chicago museums, so the museums here are pretty much a let down.  But we did get to see some nice art pieces. And they were doing a special exhibit on Norman Rockwell. I enjoyed that very much. DS was dissapointed, he wanted to see some of the old masters and there are none here. When we looked through the contemporary/pop/mixed media art he scoffed that he didn't want to see stuff he could do! Such a funny kid.

Sometime this week we're hoping to be able to get over to St. Petersburg to the Salvador Dali Museum. Hopefully it pans out, because I really, really want to go and I think DS will be enthralled with it.

DS had his last baseball game Wed. night. They won, but they won't continue in the tournament play because they lost the first 2 games. We've been going to the ball field to volunteer with the coach-pitch league as we are hosting the tourny for them. Lots of volunteers are needed, mostly for scorekeep. I find it very easy to fill in the books, but no one ever wants to do it. {shrugs} I have no idea why. Last night we volunteered for the last 2 games of the night and since they were running late we didn't get home til 10pm. That makes for a long, long day. We will probably go watch the minors tourny later this week to see who wins. And that'll be the end of spring ball. DS can't wait for fall to get here so he can play again! He plans to work all summer so he can try out for a pitching position. He has a pretty good arm, just needs a good aim.

That's our week in a barrel. Hope everyone had a good week and is enjoying the weekend. :D

Ds 1 did well with reading, and Ds 2 had trouble around 3rd & 4th grades. Ds 3 has had problems since 4yo K, he is in 4th grade and although I have seen some improvement, he is nowhere near grade level.
