    Music

    So Who Invented Music?

Evolutionists would say that it developed over millions of years out of some need.....

I say it was God. Music has such a universal quality that it enters into a person's heart evoking emotions without even saying a word. The words are important too, but the melody, and rythm transform the ordinary words into feelings.

    This article was interesting:

    http://sacredmusicamerica.com/harmony/keyes.html

Music is for me, a link to life, a link to God and a way to worship Him. It is such a part of my spirit that to go a day without some kind of music is almost impossible for me. I ALWAYS have a song in my head- nonstop. I walk around humming sometimes unconciously.

I never learned how to read music, although I have always been able to sing, and can weave my voice in and out of the differing notes in a song, this one problem has kept me feeling like I was not able to teach my children everything they needed.

This year, I have discovered that everyone here wanted to learn to read music and play an instrument. "OH GOD HELP!" I thought. "I don't have the funds to buy lessons. Instruments are expensive. I have tried to learn music myself and could never quite get it."

But He puts these desires in us for a reason.I know that it is in my future to be on the worship team at my church.I have spent years avoiding it... because I am such an introvert.... I also don't have nice enough clothes to get up there at the front of the service. I know that my heart has issues of pride and that I am not ready for this yet.

Harley wanted a guitar for Christmas, which he got belatedly. I had no way at all to teach him. All I know how to do is tune it! I prayed for a way, and God provided one. A homeschooled teen who is helping out with Harley's small group offered out of the goodness of his heart to teach my son for half an hour every week. I had also been praying or an older boy to take Harley under his wing and help him develop his character and friendships.

Next, as I was searching homeschoolclassifieds.com, I spotted a music prigram made for homeschool moms who know NOTHING about teaching music ( Keyboard Capers). It was used for $15 with all the manipulatives included. That is over a 50% savings!

So I got that. It's working. I can UNDERSTAND it, and the kids are just soaking it up too!

The other day, Dh got me some clothes. He offered to buy me contactws too (I didn't even think of that, but it was nice!) My pride has been broken this year as I have had to quit relying on mysel and really look to God to provide.

    And He does...

So I will be setting up an audition for the worship team soon.

    Fish can do WHAT?

Tuesday, March 11, 2008, 10:39 AM CST [General]

Do you have any idea how many fish can breathe air?

I was looking through aquarium sites and books with my dd, who is breeding Dalmatian Mollies.

She has a corydoras catfish in her tank that shoots up to the top of the tank like a flash and down again. He is gulping air.

Many aquarium ish can not only gulp air but they can also travel for short distances over dry land.

Dd remarked the other day that she thought it was nice of God to make certain animals just to be pets for us. I think He probably did just that.

Like Tigers? Howabout a little "tiger" cat of your very own? Like sharks? How about a tiny one that fits in a fishtank?

. He knew that the water in a fish tank does NOT stay at a constant chemical composition, and that sometimes fish get out. So He made them to survive that. He also knew that in the wild places, sometimes water dries up or gets polluted, and this helps them there too.

Here is a story my dd found the other day about a dojo loach that likes to take "walks" to the bathtub!

    http://www.aquahobby.com/tales/e_tubwalker.php

    It was pretty funny!

Did you know that catfish, unlike most other fish can blink?

I wonder why they need to blink, and God didn't feel that other fishes needed to?

    I have HAD it

Wednesday, February 27, 2008, 09:57 AM CST [General]

I have had one of those MONTHS...

A dear friend from my local homeschool support group wrote some words to me that soothed my aching heart. They were just like a hug in an email:)

I am posting some of her letter to me,( with her permission) in the hopes that it will help some of you too....

    MyCuteGraphics.com - Cute Glitter Graphics

God loves you so much. That is what you need to cling to. Let him lead you and guide you and let that still small voice reach your ears.  I was reading in Isaiah 55 today.   Listen( read) what it says in verses 1-3:
Wait and listen everyone who is thirsty! Come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Yes. come, buy [priceless, spiritual] wine and milk without money and without price [simply for the self-surrender that accepts the blessings].  Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your earnings for what does not satisfy? Hearken diligently to Me, and eat what is good and let your soul delight itself in fatness [the profuseness of spiritual joy].  Incline your ear [ submit and consent to the divine will] and come to Me; hear, and your soul will revive; and I will make an everlasting covenant or league with you, even the sure mercy (kindness, goodwill, and compassion) promised to David.
Then down into vs 8-11 it says:
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts are higher than your thoughts. For as the rain and snow come down from the heavens, and return not there again, but water the earth and make it bring forth and sprout, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth out mouth: it shall not return to Me void [ without producing any effect, useless] but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the things for which I sent it.

I was praying just today.. Lord, cause my ears to hear your voice, cause my heart to hearken to your World and submit and come to you, cause my soul to be revived.   Nancy, if nothing else all He is asking us to do today is come to him and allow him to heal our broken hearts. To guide us with the Love of a Father who sees our worth far more than we ever could.

Take that break! I have learned the hard way with my own health issues how much I need to listen to that voice. You will be surprised how much easier learning comes when you take a break and do something different. If anything , just let (dd)do her math daily. So she doesn't fall behind.

Pray and see where God is leading you in regards to their education.  I have had to try some different approaches for (my dd) with school.  She is not at the level of her peers but she is growing and learning at her level. God has purposed her heart to draw near.  Be her prayer warrior in that.

As I was preparing for this month's meeting on learning styles I was really impressed with this thought. Hebrews 11:6 says.. But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that comes to Gdo must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder  of them that diligently seek him.  We have to believe that God knew what he was doing in giving us these children, leading us to homeschool and will be with us no matter what.  Faith in the face of fear gives wings to hope that can not be deferred.  "Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. " Prov 13:12  Every gift and talent He placed in you was there to bring out the gifts and talents He has given to your children.  The fervent prayer of a MOTHER is unhindered in it's possibility. You have enormous authority over those kids and when you wield the powerful tool of the Sword of the Spirit.. not one assignment the devil could send your way can stand.

I sent a forward to the group from Marilyn Moll's website about perfectionism.

Here is the web site- the article is called " What I Wish I had Known"
    http://homefortheirhearts.com/?p=162#more-162

It really touched my heart today. I encourage you to read it.  Also, one thing that I learned at a time when I was doing some recovery work and learning about victory over bondage was to look up every scripture that says  who I am  "IN Christ".   I will look for those tonight and see if I can get you a list.  Then start confessing them over yourself.  Also.. when  I really feel myself getting low I put myself on the Scripture RX. 5 Psalms a day and 1 Proverb.  I often live in the Psalms.  Put on some praise music and just let your heart lift up praises to the only One who can touch your heart and hold you close.

I hope I have helped a little and not added a burden to your heart. Trust God's love for you and for your kids Nancy. .And for your husband.  That is a tough one too!  Trust him for the Victory in your lives, not just that but the daily peace of walking with him no matter what it looks like on the outside. ... for the things of this world are temporal but the things of God are eternal.  :)

You are doing a great job with your kids and they don't have to fit a "super-homeschooler" model to be a success.  My kids don't! We only fail when we give up and give in to the lies of the devil. Remember.. there is no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus! He smiles when he thinks of you and calls you his dear one.

    Life Lessons

Friday, February 22, 2008, 09:48 AM CST [General]

My Dear brother and his wife got me the movie "One Night With the King" for Christmas. It's a great movie. The movie people did take some creative lisence and change a few things, but all in all, I loved it every time I saw it.  Last night, we watched it again, and I discovered something new. The story begins with Xerxes inviting his Queen Vashti to his banquet ( presumably to show her off to a bunch of drunk guys who had been feasting for the 7th day in a row) which she refused. This angered the king and he denounced her as queen.

In the end, The king is asked to go to Esther's banquet- not once, but twice!

Esther's relationship with him somehow softened and humbled him to the point where he would do that because he loved her.

    Another Lesson:

Last Wednesday, I was at church and was blessed to hear Pastor Todd speak. There were so many messages within his sermon that I think I could spend a week relating all of them!

He told a story about a family that had a housefire. Everyone got out safely except the 5 year old son, who was still in the second story bedroom. The child was crying and rubbing his eyes, calling his father. The father could see him, but he knew that going back into the house was not a good idea. He called to his son, and told him to jump.

"But Daddy, I can't see you!" the boy cried.

The Father answered " Yes, son, but I can see you. Jump!"

The boy jumped and his father caught him.

Pastor Todd said " Can't you hear your Father saying to you.' Jump! I'll catch you!'?"

The main theme of this night was trust, and prayer for even the little things.

It is a comfort to know that even when we don't see God in a situation, He still sees us.

What will we loose if we trust Him?

    What will we gain?

    off topic grammar poems

Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 12:40 PM CST [General]

I know this is off topic, but I had to share these:

    Falling Objects at MS-Goodies.com

    Writing, Grammar, and More

    Good Handwriting

    If you are wise
    You will organize
    You handwriting always
    To be the right size.
    The shape is important
    Round and neat
    Using your hands
    Not your feet.

    Keep the right pace
    You're not in a race
    Or your poor little word
    Will fall on its face.
    Be careful of your spacing
    Because like racing,
    If you don't heed it
    You won't be able
    To read it!

    Parts of a Sentence

    A sentence, sentence, sentence
    Is complete, complete, complete
When 5 simple rules it meets, meets, meets.
    It has a subject, subject,
    And a verb, verb, verb.
    It makes sense, sense, sense
    With every word, word, word.
Add a capital letter and end mark, mark,
Now our sentence has all its parts.

    Punctuation Marks

The period is a busy man.
    A small round traffic cop.
    He blocks the helter-skelter words
And brings them to a stop.

The question mark's a tiny girl,
    She's small but very wise;
    She asks too many questions
For a person of her size.

    Of all the punctuation folk,
    I like the comma best.
For when I'm getting out of breath
He lets me take a rest.

    Quotation marks are curious.
    When friendly talk begins
You'll always find these little marks
    Are busy listening in.

    The exclamation mark's an elf,
    Who is easily excited.
When children laugh or cry or scream
    It's then he's most delighted.

Whenever you come to the end of a thought,
You sign it off with a polka dot.

    The Contraction Song
(to the tune of "London Bridge is Falling Down")

I'm the first word; don't change me!
Don't change me, don't change me.
I'm the first word; don't change me!
Oh, no, just let me be.

When you change the second word,
    Second word, second word,
When you change the second word,
    A shorter word you'll see.

    Certain letters are taken out,
    Taken out, taken out.
    Certain letters are taken out.
    One word will remain.

    Apostrophe will fill that space,
Fill that space, fill that space.
    Apostrophe will fill that space,
The rest will stay the same.

    Can't and couldn't, isn't, too.
    Isn't, too, isn't, too,
    Won't and I've and let's, it's true,
    Contractions every one.

    I'm and she's and you're and he'd,
    You're and he'd, you're and he'd,
    Wouldn't, didn't, we'll and she'd,
    Good! And now we're done.

    The Because Song
(to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star")

    B-e-c-a-u-s-e,
That's the way we spell because,

Keep a Poem in Your Pocket

Keep a poem in your pocket
and a picture in your head
    and you'll never feel lonely
at night when you're in bed.

The little poem will sing to you.
The little picture it brings to you
A dozen dreams to dance to you
At night when your in bed.

    So---
Keep a picture in your pocket
And a poem in your head
    And you'll never feel lonely
At night when your in bed.
